    Prerequisites: 3 units of art and portfolio review by the Department (Spring of Junior year)

    AP Studio Art is a one-credit course intended for the serious 12th grade art student who is highly self-motivated and committed to building a superior portfolio. The course is time-demanding and based on quality, concentration of a particular mode of work, and breadth of experience. Students will submit their portfolios for evaluation to The College Board enabling them to qualify for college credit in studio art. Students must choose to submit either a 2D, 3D, or Drawing Portfolio. In order to qualify for entrance into the AP, students must maintain a minimum 92 average in their junior year, and undergo a Department Portfolio review. It is strongly recommended that entrants pursue guided work during the summer of their junior year, in order to prepare for the AP. Completion of a summer assignment is required for all students.

    Prerequisite: Drawing and Painting

    This course is designed to develop a portfolio for applying to art schools and colleges. The emphasis is on original artwork. Students will build on skills covered in Drawing & Painting, and are encouraged to develop their own artistic style. Through a variety of projects relating to 20 th Century and current trends in Art, the student will reflect upon the work of artists which has some bearing on his/her own. This course provides the interested student a variety of opportunities to explore a wide range of media at an advanced level. In addition to the regular classroom instruction, Advanced Art students participate in the Lincoln Center Institute program, and benefit from visiting artists in the classroom. Students are required to keep a sketchbook/journal, and must present an exit portfolio for course credit. They are also expected to visit museums/galleries and write follow-up critiques on selected art works.

    Prerequisite: Advanced Studio in Art

    Students will continue with the Advanced Studio program to develop a comprehensive portfolio for applying to art schools and colleges. Through a two year sequence of alternating projects, each student enrolled in Advanced Studio and Portfolio Preparation will complete a substantial body of work for his/her portfolio. Students wishing to finalize their college portfolio in Art may do so in their senior year with Portfolio Preparation, or the more rigorous AP course. The instructor will assist with photographing all artwork and preparing materials for college applications . In addition to the regular classroom instruction, Advanced Art and Portfolio Preparation students will benefit from the Lincoln Center Institute program and visiting artists in the classroom. Students are required to keep a research journal, and must present an exit portfolio for course credit. They are also expected to visit museums/galleries and write follow-up critiques on selected art works.
